Introducing Playing for Life: Golf, Hormones, & Midlife Performance
(Scroll to the bottom of the page to find out how to enter the podcast launch giveaway!)
You didn’t change your swing. You didn’t stop practicing. But somewhere after 40, the distance started going. Your focus started fading on the back nine. You’re more tired walking the 15th than you used to be finishing 18. And after a couple of bad holes, your confidence doesn’t bounce back the way it used to.
Here’s what nobody in golf is telling you: the problem may not be your swing. It may be your body.
Welcome to Playing for Life: Golf, Hormones, & Midlife Performance, the podcast where golf, hormones, and midlife performance are finally part of the same conversation.
Hosted by Amy Garza, MD, a board-certified physician, hormone specialist, and former collegiate golfer now competing again in midlife, this show connects what’s happening in your body to what’s happening on the course.
Because after 40, your game is not just about mechanics.
It’s about hormones. Metabolism. Sleep. Recovery. Nervous system regulation. Brain health. Confidence. Energy. Sex drive. Strength. Longevity.
And yes, all of that can show up on your scorecard.
Each episode starts with what you may be noticing in your game -- loss of distance, back nine fatigue, inconsistency, mental collapse, slow recovery, or feeling like you’ve lost your edge -- and breaks down what may actually be driving it.
This isn’t about chasing who you were at 25.
It’s about understanding the body you’re playing with now, so you can feel stronger, think more clearly, perform better, and keep playing the game you love for decades to come.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to find out how to enter the podcast launch giveaway! I am giving away a bundle of gifts to a lucky listener who follows, rates, and reviews the show. This bundle is full of some of my favorite things for bringing vitality to the course, and are a must for playing your best golf in midlife.
Listen to the First Three Episodes:
Episode 1: Unlock Better Golf in Midlife (Start Here): Your game may not be changing because you suddenly got worse at golf. Your body may be changing, and nobody has helped you connect those changes to what’s happening on the course. Start here to understand why distance, stamina, focus, confidence, and recovery can shift in midlife -- and why your swing may not be the whole story.
Episode 2: Testosterone for Performance: Every Golfer Needs It: Testosterone affects far more than muscle or sex drive. For both men and women, it can shape energy, motivation, mental sharpness, recovery, confidence, strength, and performance. If you’re losing distance, feeling foggy, dragging through the back nine, or not recovering like you used to, your game may be sending a signal worth listening to.
Episode 3: Guys, Don't Skip This One! Why Progesterone and Estrogen Matter for Your Golf Game: Hormone shifts do not stay neatly contained in “health” conversations. They can show up as poor sleep, anxiety over short putts, emotional spirals after a bad hole, brain fog, fatigue, joint aches, and feeling unlike yourself. Progesterone and estrogen may have more to do with your game, relationships, and midlife performance than you’ve been told (yes, even for men!).
